Man, you ever listen to songs and suddenly they're wrapped up with a certain person, character and so on in your mind? Like, whenever you hear certain lyrics or certain tunes, you get very specific visuals in your head. I know I get that a *lot*.

So...what songs and lyrics (outside of the soundtrack, of course) make you think of Willy Wonka? Or any other characters from Dahl's Wonkaverse?

I know that while listening to some new U2 songs tonight, it took only one single listen for City Of Blinding Lights to inexorably entwine itself in my mind with Willy. I mean, damn, the feeling was nearly instant.

Other songs whenever they strike me, of course? And now for you guys! Do you think the song works as well? What other songs do it for you?

It does sound kind of like him, all flighty and focusing on the beautiful lights...I'd explain further, but somehow I can't find the words. It is an interesting song. And it does fit him in my mind now, curse you. I won't be able to seperate them.

I was just listening to Speed of Sound (Coldplay) and it sounds like him as well. I was wondering what it made me think of, and now I know. All the talk of never trying and never knowing makes me think of someone who dreams but doesn't experience. Someone who doesn't go out with noise and sound.

Or I could be just talking through my armpit. You never know.

This one kind of reminds me of Willy.

Other than that, I can't think of anything.

Do you like U2? I highly recommend getting an MP3 of 'City Of Blinding Lights'. Even if it and its lyrics don't make you think of Willy when you hear it, it's a really good song. :)

I think it works, yeah...

This has nothing to do with Dahl and I don't know how many people on here will know what I'm talking about, but for some reason unknown even to me the song 'Don't Fear the Reaper' always makes me think of Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor.
